It's true.  Clothes, if not fit correctly, can make you look short and fat.  No matter how much time you spend in the gym or dieting, wearing incorrectly fitting clothes can ruin your look.  I get it, loose-fitting clothes can be somewhat comfortable.  But they can also make you look 10-20 lbs heavier, shorter, older, dumpier and they project to the world and to the people around you that you don't care about yourself.

Casual Summer Shoes from Ben Sherman

You've already seen these shoes in this Outfit of the Day post as well as my post about No-Show Socks so I wanted to let you know the brand and model of the shoe because they're becoming one of my favorites.  They are the Ben Sherman Breckon Sneaker.  The fabric upper resembles linen and I've been wearing them around for a little while and they're super comfortable.  They're a great lightweight summer sneaker that pair really well with shorts and chinos.  I got them from my local DSW for about $60.

Since summer is in full swing and t-shirts aren't always appropriate, here's a look at some fitted short sleeve shirt options and what to look for when shopping.  The casual short sleeve button down is one of the most versatile pieces you can own.  It goes from the beach, to the bar and to work if you're lucky enough to have a loose dress code.  Today's short sleeve button down is a more fitted, tailored cut, but to clarify, fitted doesn't mean tight.

Outfit of the Day - Seattle Men's Fashion Blog

I had a corporate client meeting downtown Seattle this morning and since it's still in the upper 80's outside, I wanted to dress light, but still respectable.  I went with a light linen blazer, a fitted short-sleeve button up shirt, lightweight chinos and light-color summer sneakers with no-show socks.  I also added the blue check cotton pocket square.

Summer Clothes Shopping - Now's the Time

If you need a few things to add to your summer attire, now's the time to shop.  Most stores are switching over to Fall season and they're heavily discounting summer clothing to get rid of it.  I hit up the Banana Republic Outlet over the weekend and got a few pair of shorts, a short-sleeve button up and a new linen blazer all for 40% to 50% off.

Beat the Heat in a Linen Blazer

Yes, it's hot outside, but you still have parties and weddings to attend and you don't want to melt.  Go for the lightweight, deconstructed, breathable linen blazer for a sharp look that's a lot more comfortable than the standard wool blazer.  You can dress up the linen blazer with a tie & pocket square, or dress it down over a v-neck t-shirt with jeans or shorts.

Summer Shorts - What's the Appropriate Inseam For You

It's summer time and we've had a pretty good stretch of hot weather here in Seattle, so why not talk about shorts and inseam lengths.

So, what's the appropriate inseam length for you?  That's a good question.  Nobody knows the answer except you.  However, I will show you a few examples and give you some of my Do's & Dont's when it comes to summer shorts.

Why Men Suck at Fashion (in general)

It's my belief that most men who struggle with what to wear is that they simply don't know any better, and since they don't know, they choose to not participate at all.  They go with whatever worked in college or whatever their kids are wearing.  This often gets played off as, "I don't care what people think" or "I don't care about fashion" or "I just want to be comfortable", but when you boil it down, they do care.  Honestly if there wasn't any care, we'd all just walk around in pajamas.  There's zero sacrifice in comfort with dressing age appropriate.

First and foremost, thanks for stopping by.
As a 45 year-old guy, there doesn't seem to be a lot of resources on the web with fashion/style advice for guys like me.  In essence, nobody is speaking directly to me and my own personal taste.  There's a lot of style advice for the 20-something's fresh out of college looking for work, but at this point in my life, I'm secure with who I am and what I'm comfortable with.  I care what I look like, how I present myself and I haven't 'let myself go'.  I believe first impressions are critical and I believe people are judged on appearance (weather or not we like to think that's true).
